DESTINATIONS : Kinnaur-Lahul-Spiti
DURATION : 12 Days

 

Day 01 :
Arrival Delhi to Shimla, Leisure at Simla. Overnight stay

Day 02 :
Journey starts for Kinnaur, the land of fairy tales and fantasies, has a spectacular terrain of lush green valleys, orchids, vineyards, snow-clad peaks and cold desert mountains. The road from Shimla to Kinnaur follows a scenic route running through Narkanda, famous for skiing and winter sports. Arrival Sarahan (2165 m). Sarahan, a mane of deodar trees, rides the slopes and higher still, encircling the Bashal Peak, This sparsely populated tract is steeped in ancient legends and here is the famous Bhimakali Temple - regarded as one of the fifty one sacred 'Shaktipeeths'. The temple's unusual architecture and wealth of carvings have made it a resplendent example of what is loosely called the 'Indo-Tibetan Style'. Deep down in the valley, flows the river Sutlej and across lies the snow clad Shrikhand. Overnight stay at Sarahan.

Day 03 :
Proceed to Sangla. The landscape of the area varies from the lush green orchards of the scenic Sangla Valley to the stark magnificence of the Hangrang Valley. The massive snow clad ranges that provide a regal dignity to the scene are dominated by the peak of Kinner Kailash. Visit Chitkul.Chitkul (3450 m) is the last and the highest village in this valley.Overnight stay at Sangla.

Day 04 :
Transfer to Kalpa via Recongpeo. Kalpa (2768 m) beyond Recongpeo (14 km from Powari) on the link road, is the main village of the district. Across the river, facing Kalpa is the majestic spectacle of the Kinner Kailash range. They are a spectacular sight early in the morning as the rising sun touches the snowy peaks with crimson and gold light.

Stay at Kalpa

Day 06 :
Transfer to Tabo, via Nako lake. Nako (3662 m) a little off the N.H.22 along a link road, just short of Yangthang is the scenic village of Nako the largest village in the desolate Hangrang Valley. A little lake reflects the stark grandeur of the surrounding hills. Road enters Spiti after Nako. Arrival Tabo. Tabo is the largest monastery comples of Buddhist religion. The millennium celebrations of the monastery took place few years back. It has sculptures, stucco images and wall painting which are similar to the Ajanta-Alora paintings. It is situated on the left bank of Spiti river at an altitude of 3050 m.

Day 07 :
Transfer to Kaza via Dankhar monastery. Dankhar is situated at an altitude of 3870 m and is 23 km from Tabo. It is one of the main villages of Spiti Valley and the erstwhile capital of Spiti state. This place is famous for its ancient fort and monastery. Overnight stay at Kaza. Kaza is the head quarter of Spiti sub-division and is 47 km from Tabo. It has a Buddhist monastery, Spiti fair is held here every year in the month of August.

Day 08 :
Visit Key monastery. It is 7 km from Kaza and is an ancient monastery. This is situated on the hill top at an altitude of 4116 m. Kibber is the highest motorable village in the world at an altitude of 4205 m. on the way to Kunzum Pass (4551 m) is the last habitated village and is 57 km from Kaza. It has a Buddhist Gompa. Kibber village is the last village in the area. Overnight stay at Kaza.

Day 09 :
Transfer to Chandratal via Kunzum La . It is the mountain pass at an altitude of 4551 m with temple of Kunzam Devi. One can also trek from here to the famous and beautiful moon lake Chandra Tal (4070 m). Asia's biggest glaciers Bada and Chotta Sigri glaciers are worth seeing from here.

Day 10 :
After crossing Kunzum La one reaches Batal on the right of Chandra river. After crossing Chotta and Bara Darha and Chhatry one reaches at Gramphu from where one has the option to visit Manali (84 km), Keylong (61 km) and Leh (401 km) on the highest mountain road. Overnight stay at Manali.

Day 11 :
Leisure at Manali

Day 12 :
Transfer to Kulu/Chandigarh /Delhi
