The Mongoloid stock population of the state have a glorious heritage of arts and crafts, enchanting folk songs and are a simple, friendly hospitable people. Their colorful festivals are a manifestation of their faith and belief, conceived by their ancient fore fathers, in the power of nature.
The wide variety of altitudinal and climatic conditions have given rise to different forest types which create corresponding natural shelter, food etc. to varieties of wildlife including Clouded Leopard , Golden Cat, Hoolock Gibbon, Snow Loris,and even highly endangered Hispid Hare with an wide variation of almost 500 species of birds.
ITANAGAR
Itanagar, capital city of Arunachal Pradesh has many places of tourist interest like Itafort, Buddhist Monastery, Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Museum, Emporium, Ganga Lake where boating facilities are available, the Zoo, Craft centre and Polo Park at Naharlagun.
ZIRO
The 5754 ft. high town is almost a level valley enclosed on all sides by pine-clad low stooping hills. This area, also called Apatani Plateau, is famous for Paddy-cum-Fish culture.
DAPORIJO
Daporijo, is a beautiful place on the right bank of Subansiri river with picturesque villages, A few kms away there are caves worth visiting.
ALONG
Along is a small town with beautiful villages. One can visit the Mithun and Jersey Cross Breeding Farm at Kamaki 25 kms away from here. Ideal for Trekking, Hiking and Angling on the river Siyom.
TEZU(PARASURAM KUNDA)
Situated in the lower reaches to the river Lohit. It is a religious place visited by people from all over the country during the Makar Sankranti day for a holy dip. Common belief that a dip on the day in the kund washes away one's sins. As recorded in the Kalika Purana that it was here the sage Parasuram washed away his sin of matricide.
PASIGHAT
Pasighat is situated at the right bank of river Siang(name given to Brahmaputra in Arunachal). The place worths a visit here would be the Lali Wildlife Sanctuary where one can find in plenty the wild buffalo, tiger, samber and deer. One can also take a glimpse of the famous Ponnung Dance of the Adis, and see the emporium and villages.
BHALUKPONG
Dotted along the foothills dividing Assam and Arunachal, Bhalukpong is famous for its orchid centre, Angling , wildlife and river rafting. It is one of the main entry points to Pristine Arunachal.
Tipi, 6 km further from Bhalukpong this place is famed for its orchidarium enriched with numerous varieties of native orchid and its cutflower experiments. River Kameng (also known as Jiabharli when enters Assam) flowing all along Bhalukpong makes the place the ideal one far from the madding crowd.
Elephant Flat is another 13 kms from the nerve centre of Bhalukpong which even a few years back used to be the favourite spot for the wild Indian elephants. The wilderness around would certainly make one feel the tender touches of Nature.
EAGLE NEST SANCTUARY
A protected area in the Himalayan foothills of West Kameng District where altitude ranges extremely from 500 metres (1,640 ft) to 3,250 metres.
Eagle nest is notable as a prime birding site due to the extraordinary variety, numbers and accessibility of bird species. Some rare birds found here are Temminck's Tragopan,Ward's Trogon,beautiful Nuthatch etc. and newly discovered Bugun Liocichla.
BOMDILA
Bomdila is located at a height of over 2530 metre. It has a Craft Center, Apple Orchards and Buddhist Gomphas. There are also views of Himalayan landscapes and snow-clad ranges.
DIRANG
Dirang is a tiny town famous for Hot spring, Monasteries, Sheep Breeding Farm and the National Yak Research & Breeding Center at Nigmadung. The entire place is surrounded by apple & kiwi orchards and the atmosphere is picturesque. Sangti valley which is just 9 kms away is famous for Siberian Black Necked Storks who visit this place during winter.
TAWANG
This is the route through which the Chinese soldiers entered Indian Territory, almost unchallenged, in 1962. This is where the Golden Pagoda shines from atop a hill, 3500 meters above sea level. This is the land of orchids, quaint sounding lakes and the handsome Monpa tribe.
Nested in the mystic lap of Himalayas at an height of 3500 meters lies Tawang. The sinuous road to Tawang passes through the dragon gates on the awesome heights of the great SELA PASS (13714 ft ) . Jaswantgarh located here is a memorial to the brave soldier who single handedly tried to hold the approaching Chinese from the pass during the 1962 Indo-Chinese war. The stupa –like Tawang War Memorial also salutes the heroes of the war. The famous Tawang Monastery, second biggest after Lhasa’s Potala, against the dramatic setting of the snowmantled peaks would certainly linger in memory while back home. The stunning 8 mtr high gilded statue of Buddha dominates the sanctum.The Nunneries, the place for the Anis, as the nuns are called is another place of attraction around Tawang. The craft centre in Tawang sells beautiful masks, hand-woven carpets, tangkhas, jewelleries and other delightfully affordable memories.
MYODIA
A snow-capped tiny gateway to the Indo-China border, Mayodia Pass is at an altitude of 2,655 m. Located in Lower Dibang Valley District of Arunachal Pradesh, it is named after Maya, a Nepali girl who vanished in the snow and could not be traced. This highest point in the district is an ideal trekking destination. Snowfall begins here in November and continues till April.
ROING
Roing is known for the historical fort of Bhishmaknagar built with clay bricks and embellished with pottery. The Bhishmaknagar Fort was first excavated in 1996-97 which testifies to the penetration of the Aryan culture into Arunachal in the 4th century A.D.
About 90kms from Roing on the way to Anini is a picturesque small town called Hunli. There is an interesting cave temple at Kupunli near Hunli. The Motor drive from Roing to Hunli through the well-maintained black topped road provides thrill and eye catching scenic beauty.
Mehao Lake
A part of the Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary, situated at a distance of approximately 17kms. from Roing. It is a vast lake covering an area of about 4sq.kms. The surrounding of the lakes are extremely rich in flora and fauna. Water of the Lake is absolutely crystal clear and a walk around the lake is a divine pleasure.
Sally
A lake resort 3kms.from Roing. Its forms a part of Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary. It is a natural lake surrounded by thick vegetation. The lake overlooks the beautiful valley down below on the far horizon.
