The main reason for visiting Bangladesh was the Bishwa Itjema festival and, in particular, to see and photograph the pilgrims travelling to and fro on the trains.
An extraordinary sight with trains covered in people but in such a wonderfully happy atmosphere. Our guides found us a great spot at Dhaka Cantonment station, and we were able to wander freely around.
Another favourite spot for photography was Dhaka fish market and the congested streets and railway beside it.
We moved on to Chittagong and up into the Hill Tracts, journeyed by boat to several tribal villages to see their way of life before flying back to Dhaka and catching the overnight launch to Barisal. Here we explored, mainly by boat, the backwaters with villages, floating markets and enjoyed the general bustle on the waterways which never stopped.
The admin for the trip was excellent. Accomodation throughout was good although more basic in the Hill Tacts and most importantly our guides were absolutely brilliant and could not have done more for us.
